100 Nintendo Switch Games In Development, Up From 80

There are now more than 100 games in development for the Nintendo Switch, up from 80 just a few weeks ago. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima revealed the new number during an earnings briefing this week. He said publishers contacted Nintendo after the system’s January reveal event to inquire about making games for the hybrid console.

During the January event, Nintendo said more than 50 publishers had signed up to work on Switch games. Now, this figure stands at more than 70. “Please look forward to more announcements about the software lineup in the future,” Kimishima said.

Also during the briefing, Kimishima reiterated that Nintendo’s goal for the Switch is to release games on a regular basis. One of the reasons why the Wii U struggled was because there were extended gaps between major releases; Nintendo is hoping to avoid this scenario with the Switch.

“[Releasing new games regularly] encourages consumers to continue actively playing the system, maintains buzz, and spurs continued sales momentum for Nintendo Switch,” Kimishima said.

The Switch launches on March 3, priced at $300. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, Super Bomberman R, and Just Dance 2017 are among the launch titles. You can see all the confirmed Switch games here in this gallery.
