DC's Aquaman Cast Pictured Together For First Time

Pre-production has started on DC’s Aquaman, which is set for release next year. Director James Wan has tweeted an image of himself and the three main cast members–Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and Patrick Wilson, about to read through the script together. Check it out below:

Aquaman will star Momoa as the King of Atlantis, while Heard is to portray Mera, the Queen of the Sea. Wilson was announced in the villain role last month, playing Aquaman’s evil half brother Orm Marius, aka Ocean Master. Wilson has actually already featured in the DC Cinematic Universe, with a voice cameo as the President towards the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Both Momoa and Heard will appear in next year’s Justice League prior to Aquaman. In November, the first image of Mera was released, while Momoa can be seen in this recent image from Justice League.

In a recent interview, Wan explained why he was drawn to Aquaman. “I love the possibility of creating a whole new world,” he told Uproxx. “I’ve always wanted to do a world creation story and visually create this amazing, incredible, magical kingdom.

“I love the fact that Aquaman is an underdog character. I love the fact that people like to make fun of him. I feel the bar is a lot lower and I can have fun with him! What it allows me to do: I think people are a lot less precious with him than, let’s say, you were doing a Spider-Man or a Batman or whatever.”

Aquaman hits theaters on October 5, 2018.
