Elite Dangerous Adding Carrie Fisher Memorial in New Update

Following the tragic passing of actress Carrie Fisher this week, some Elite: Dangerous players requested some form of a memorial for the Star Wars legend. Their wishes are being granted.

A producer for Elite: Dangerous responded to the community’s request, writing in the game’s forums, “Sad news indeed–a ‘Fisher’s Rest’ outpost will be added to the game in the 2.3 release.” This post was spotted this week by DualShockers.

This won’t be the first time that Elite: Dangerous has memorialized a sci-fi star. In 2015, developer Frontier created a Vulcan planet and a “Leonard Nimoy Station” to honor the late Star Trek actor.

Star Wars: The Old Republic players have also called for a tribute to Fisher in that game in the form of a statue. However, as PC Gamer points out, that might not work, since The Old Republic is set thousands of years before Leia was born.

Fisher reportedly suffered a heart attack on a December 23 London-to-LA flight, before passing away on the morning of December 27. She was 60. There has been an outpouring of love for Fisher from those that knew her–you can read some heartfelt messages here.
