Publisher EA has confirmed the existence of FIFA 18. The company has said in an investors’ earnings call that the series’ latest iteration will bring with it Season 2 of the story-driven mode The Journey.
“FIFA 18 will build on the foundation we created with story mode this year, bringing players back to The Journey with Season 2, featuring new characters and new storylines,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson (via Seeking Alpha).
“Our development team in Vancouver is delivering deeply innovative new experiences across this year’s game, including an Ultimate Team, and creating the most emotionally immersive and connected FIFA we have ever produced.”
Wilson noted that “more than 10 million fans have played The Journey, and Ultimate Team players are up nearly 10 percent year-over-year.”
The Journey was a story-driven adventure introduced in FIFA 17 that sees you follow a young footballer called Alex Hunter. It featured dedicated characters, cutscenes, and appearances from real-life players and managers.
We thought Season 1 of The Journey succeeded in “attaching an added emotional weight to your actions on the pitch.” To find out more, read our full FIFA 17 review.
Elsewhere in the earnings call, EA confirmed it is not making Skate 4 right now, but the company did reveal that Star Wars Battlefront 2 will have a single player campaign and content from multiple eras. For all the news from the call, check out our roundup here.
