Vin Diesel is one of the biggest names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but his role as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy and its upcoming sequel is very much part of an ensemble. However, Diesel has now revealed that we may seen a standalone Groot movie at some point.
Speaking to MTV, Diesel said it was “inevitable” that a Groot spinoff would happen. “It’s something that [Guardians director] James Gunn has talked about and it’s something that I know he would love to do,” he said. “Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it’s inevitable.
“I think what Marvel has done, primarily what James has done, to realise that character has exceeded beyond any expectations. He’s just such an interesting character and there’s so much to learn about him. I’d love to go back to his planet and learn more about him.
“He’s really a genius in a lot of levels. It’s just that we can only hear him say ‘I am Groot’ because of our sophistication level, not his.”
