A new report claims to reveal the highest-paid Star Wars: Rogue One cast member, going on to reveal that this person has an option in their clause for a sequel.
Spoilers about Star Wars: Rogue One follow below.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jyn Erso actress Felicity Jones was paid a seven-figure sum for her role, which is reportedly more than any other cast member. The report claims Jones leveraged her The Theory of Everything Oscar nomination to get herself a hefty payday. No other Rogue One cast member, including Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Donnie Yen, made more than mid six-figures, according to the report.
All of this was first brought to light in October, also by The Hollywood Reporter.
What’s new, and intriguing about today’s report, is that sources said Jones has an option in her contract to play Erso again in another movie. Given that there won’t be a Rogue One sequel, Erso might show up in a different movie. The Hollywood Reporter says there is speculation that the character could appear in a young Luke Skywalker standalone movie.
No such project has been announced, so you should take this with a grain of salt for now. But if there are to be more standalone films after 2018’s Han Solo movie, Luke Skywalker seems like a prime candidate.
Rogue One made $29 million in the US from its midnight release last night, setting a new Thursday night record for 2016. It’s projected to make as much as $150 million at the US box office this weekend.
