RollerCoaster Tycoon World Adds Santa's Sleigh and Other Holiday Items in New Update

Atari has launched a new update for RollerCoaster Tycoon World, adding holiday content and a theme that includes more than 100 new items.

The holiday content includes new items such as a snowman, Santa’s sleigh, a gingerbread man, and snow globe that you can place in your park. Check out GameSpot’s roundup here to see how other games are celebrating the holidays.

RollerCoaster Tycoon World’s new theme is called “Whimsy.” It adds three new rides, “The Montgolfières,” “Bugmania,” and “Downtown Traffic,” as well as the aforementioned 100-plus items. These are divided into scenery and piece-by-piece building items. The new theme and all the items can be used in the game’s sandbox and campaign modes.

Today’s RollerCoaster Tycoon World update also introduces improvements for the camera. Atari says it should now be more user-friendly and “freeform” than before. Players should now have greater control of the camera to let them view their creations and take screenshots from the angles they want.

Lastly, the update includes general bug fixes and improvements. The patch went live today at 10 AM ET. The full patch notes do not appear to have been posted yet, but when they are, we’ll add them here.

The first new entry in the series for PC in a decade, RollerCoaster Tycoon World launched in late March through Steam Early Access behind a wave of negative feedback. Atari acknowledged the game’s shortcomings and pledged to improve the game over time with new updates. The game left Early Access and launched in full in November. However, Steam reviews are still “mostly negative.”

By comparison, Frontier’s Planet Coaster–which also has holiday content–has received a stronger critical response.
