A sequel to the animated hit Sing will arrive in 2020, Universal Pictures and production company Illumination Entertainment have announced. Sing 2 will premiere on Christmas Day 2020, according to Entertainment Weekly.
That there will be a Sing sequel is no surprise. The first movie, which came out in December 2016, was a smash hit, making around $430 million against a budget of $75 million. The Garth Jennings-directed film featured the voices of lots of famous people, including Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, and Reese Witherspoon.
Universal also adjusted the release dates for two of its other major upcoming movies. Minions 2 is now coming on July 3, 2020 (from July 10, 2020), while The Secret Life of Pets 2 has been delayed an entire year, now scheduled to land on July 3, 2019 (was July 13, 2018).
